If “atypical background for dev work” has you intrigued, prepare to remain intrigued. Karen Klassen has joined Zeitspace as a software engineer, and has dropped that tantalizing hint of her interests in the answers that she provided in reposes to our usual questions. Make of that what you will…

Why Software Development?

I’ve always been interested in programming and solving problems using code, so software development seemed like a good fit. I have an atypical background for dev work and if you’re interested, feel free to ask me more about it!

What kind of development do you like? Mobile? Web? Something else?

I haven’t been developing for very long, but my favourite so far is front end web development.

Recommend one thing (maybe a book, movie, album, TV show, physical experience…) Why?

I would definitely recommend rock climbing. I started rock climbing about a year ago, and I go about twice a week. I think it’s a great physical activity, but also a great problem-solving challenge. It’s all about how to use your strengths to get up the wall. I find it very rewarding.

What’s your favourite new (or old) discovery in Waterloo Region?

I’ve lived in the Waterloo Region pretty much my whole life, so it’s difficult for me to pick my favourite discovery. I guess I would say that I like Waterloo Park; it’s really nice for a stroll.

Share a cool thing that folks might like to know about you?

I have a cat named Kya.
